Convention Schedule
Lions, Lioness and Leos
of 27-B1 and friends of B1, District Governor Merle cordially invites you to
attend the 36th Annual Convention of District 27-B1 at the Holiday
Inn in Manitowoc.
ATTENTION:
Hotel Room reservations are currently being accepted by calling the Holiday Inn
(920) 682-6000. Mention you are with the Lions District to get the
special convention rate.
ATTENTION:
Please note, the Convention Registration form. You may select your meals
and register using this form. The Convention Registration fee remains at
$8.00 for Lions, Lioness and adult guests if submitted before 10/10.
Children and Leos may register for $2.00. (Food for thought - most clubs
pay for their member’s registrations to encourage attendance.) However, also
remember that even if you come just for the Friday hospitality or late on
Saturday just to vote, you are still required to register and pay the fee, so
come early and enjoy yourself. The registration form can be found on line, or in
September state newspaper. NEW FOR THIS
CONVENTION: if you have joined your Lions or Lioness club after 1/1/2011, your
registration is FREE if you are among the first 20 newcomers to send in your
registration form.
EVENT:
Registration at the Convention will begin Friday at 4 p.m. and continue to 8
p.m.
The
traditional Friday night Fish buffet is only $15.00. This is open to
anyone who would like to come early and eat with your fellow Lions and Lioness.
Dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Friday
night hospitality opens at 7 p.m. and will go to 11 p.m. Your registration will
get you beer and soda all night in the hospitality room! There will also be a
50/50 and a Lioness Raffle. This year’s theme is “Helping Hands of the World”.
Every
club is asked to bring a gift to be included in our successful “Bucket
Raffle.” Bring something you’d like to win!
Saturday
begins with free coffee, juice, rolls and fruit for registered attendees.
Come as early as 7:30 and meet your friends. The opening business session will
begin at 8:30 a.m. A Parade of Checks will follow the awarding of the
President’s Excellence Awards, prior to lunch on Saturday. The Saturday Luncheon
fee is $14.00 and the Governor’s Banquet is $25.00. All meals are
plentiful, affordable and available to anyone, so come for the whole venue.
Outstanding
seminars have been planned and will take place all weekend. Voting will take
place at the end of the afternoon’s seminars. The Convention Banquet will be in the
ballroom at 6:30. The District Raffle will also be drawn after dinner.
For
voting, a District Governor, a Vice District Governor and a 2nd Vice District
Governor will be elected at this convention. We also choose a convention site
for 2012 and a bowling host, so see if your club is interested in hosting next
year’s District Bowling Tournament. Any Lion or Lioness Club in the district can
host it any year. Nomination papers must be submitted to Governor Merle,
election chairperson Ralph Schneider, and the State Office 30 days prior to the
convention (by September 29th).
The
2012 District Pin will be offered for sale at this convention. Get your designs
ready as well, as the District Pin Contest will be part of the ballot for the
calendar year 2013 pin. A $25 prize will again be awarded. Bring your entries
and good luck!
Don’t
forget to sell some ads for our convention booklet. Clubs may again keep 40% of
the ad fee. The full-price fees you need to charge are: Booklet covers - $135;
full page - $110; 1/2 page - $75; 1/4 page - $45; and a 1/8th page is $30. You
keep 40% of this fee for your club and mail in the balance with the ad. Deadline
is Oct. 19 to Mike DeBeare, address below. Again this year is the
chance to honor club members in the convention book. For a $25
special ad you can honor a member. The ad will be prominently placed in the
booklet so please consider this as a nice way to recognize a hard-working
member. (The 40% discount does NOT count for this ad)
Last
but not least please remember to begin your Peace Poster contest preparations
now. Write to Lions International and get your kit for your school so that you
can contact your local school first thing when school begins. Yes, it is a
contest, but we really want to get the kids thinking of peace. Sponsor your own
prizes so someone at your school wins.
